Job Description
Position Summary:
The Research & Development (R&D) Medical Scientist is responsible for the design, execution, and documentation in new product development. The R&D Medical Scientist’s primary role is in the discovery of methods that bridge pre-analytic specimen quality with downstream testing on specimen amino acid sequences, protein structures, and nucleic acids as well as impact on signal transduction pathways.
Secondary duties may include the performance of internal product verification studies and assist with external product validation studies: alpha-site testing (customer testing in-house) and beta-site testing (field testing). He or she will collect accurate data and prepare written research protocols, assist with writing conclusive research and development reports based upon in-house testing and field testing results.
The R&D Medical Scientist is expected to participate in creative collaboration with existing R&D Staff, Strategic Marketing Staff, and other colleagues across the company to strengthen product pipeline and to keep current on industry trends via literature, trade show participation, and participation in customer focus groups.
The R&D medical Scientist will interface with Strategic and Tactical Marketing for project updates and project transfer.
The R&D Medical Scientist will conduct training sessions with internal team members on the use of new products. He or she will ensure adherence to regulations for new product development of Medical Devices as outlined by ISO 13485.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• MS or PhD/MD in biological or physical sciences
• Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
• in situ hybridization (ISH)
• standard hybridization (Western, Southern, Northern Blotting)
• Protein separation, amplification & analysis techniques: Mass Spectroscopy, PCR, FACS / flow cytometry, electrophoresis
• Protein structure analysis techniques: FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy
• Nanobiology familiarity
• Technical / scientific report writing
• Familiarity with PACE/PACE++, ISO 13485, and GLP/GMP preferred.
