Eaton Corp. in Galesburg, Mich. has an opening for a Castings Commodity Manager. This is a full-time management position.
Job Description
The person hired to take this position will manage the strategic coordination of sourcing and supplier relationship management including developing commodity strategies, leading supplier selection activities, and establishing purchase contracts governing assigned commodities.
Emphasis is on selection and management of vendors so as to provide Eaton with the highest levels of quality at the lowest landed cost while insuring adequate capacity, on-time delivery, and commitment to continuous improvement. The scope includes supporting current products as well as new product development.
The primary responsibilities are as follows:
• Develop commodity strategy for required commodities. This includes segmenting the commodity into sourceable categories, developing and executing supply base right-sizing, three year road maps to improve supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery), and ensuring appropriate levels of capacity to support business unit demand.
• Manages supplier relationships and opportunities for cost out and product/supplier improvement, while ensuring production, delivery, and capacity requirements for all commodities.
• Participate in the activities (i.e., PPAP, supplier approval process, specification/print development when necessary, trials, etc.) during supplier start-up. Coordinate cost estimating and design parameters for new projects and products.
• Applies skillful negotiations with internal and external suppliers; conducts problem resolution and settles disputes; develops win/win solutions and creates positive relations with tact and expert judgment.
• Coordinate the exchange of technical information regarding product and product processing with adequate safeguards for confidentiality.
• Negotiate resolution (as required) of Eaton claims (i.e., cost, time, rework, scrap, labor, sorting charges) with suppliers regarding non-conforming material.
• Evaluate social, economic, and governmental information to determine the risks and opportunities regarding global sourcing (i.e., tariffs, dumping duties, exchange rates, etc.).
• Actively participate in teams working towards continuous process improvements, elimination of waste, simultaneous engineering, and advanced product quality planning.
• Support the corporate sponsored IDEAS program and its associated activities and tools.
• Develop productive relationships with others in Supply Chain Management, mentoring, teaching and training.
• Comply with Eaton standard SCM processes and policies both locally and at the corporate level.
• Locate and develop new suppliers to improve the capability of Eaton’s supply base.
Position Criteria:
• Experience can be replaced with strong technical commodity knowledge.
• Strong Communication and Presentation Skills.
• Understanding of key financial metrics.
• Knowledge and skills in MRP, MRPII, JIT, Lean Mfg., Kan Ban, Vendor Managed Inventory.
• Knowledge and experience with Oracle.
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
• Contract Negotiating Skills.
• Blueprint reading skills.
• Knowledge of iron castings and/or forging industries.
Preferred:
• MBA preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, engineering, or specialized degree in purchasing/logistics/supply chain from an accredited institution plus a minimum of five years of experience in the supply chain field.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
