Grosse Pointe Geek grows tech services, plans to hire two

Look! There behind your computer, it's... oh, nevermind.

At first glance they may not seem like heroes, but when things go wrong with your computer, who you gonna call? Armed with pocket protectors, thick glasses, an awkward composure and a wicked knowledge about all things computer, Grosse Pointe Geek is the company more and more people and businesses are turning to for help.

"We do all things geeky," says Joseph Bracken, president and founder of Grosse Pointe Geek. "We do anything that is computer related."

And they’re doing more. The computer technical services company that started from scratch four years ago has now grown to six employees and is looking for two more computer techs. Bracken adds that expanding the payroll to a few more people this summer seems likely.

The company specializes in a broad range of technical services, such as setting up wireless networks, cleaning computer hardware, managing e-mail services and firewall protection. It serves everything from individuals to businesses that employ up to 200 people.

Business has steadily increased over the years, but it rocketed up 30 to 40 percent after it opened up a 1,000-square-front storefront in downtown Grosse Pointe, 17116 Kercheval, a block away from the new Trader Joe’s in the Kercheval Place. Computer techs in the front service customers bringing in computers to be cleaned and optimized while geeks in the back help manage IT services.

But whether they are the geeks in the front or the back, one thing is certain. They’re all geek and they’re from Grosse Pointe.
