Downtown Birmingham's 735 Forest to finish construction by end of summer

So close yet so far. That's where 735 Forest, the newest addition to Birmingham's Triangle District, is now.

Even though workers are putting the "final touches" on a few of the mixed-use buildings, it probably won't be finished until the end of the summer, according to the development's spokeswoman Kristin Holder.

The three-story structure, which is coming to us thanks to Mosher, Dolan, Cataldo & Kelly, will feature restaurant, office and residential space in the middle of what city planners hope will become a vibrant, urban district that simultaneously rivals and complements Birmingham's downtown.

The first floor of the 35,000-square-foot building will house the Forest Avenue Bistro, a 65-seat restaurant. That will be run by Brian Polcyn who also owns the Five Lakes Grill in Milford. The second floor will house the offices of the Birmingham-based developer, along with some extra office space available for lease. Eleven rental 1,100-square-foot lofts will grace the third floor.

The building is also going for LEED certification. The developer razed three old houses to make room for the downtown-style project. The structure is next to the new AAA building about one block east of Woodward Avenue.

The city's Triangle District is bounded by Woodward, Adams Road and Maple Road (just east of downtown). It emphasizes urban features, such as walkability, density and tall, mixed-use buildings.
