Business in under way for a new medical device company in Kalamazoo.

Keystone Surgical Products got its start in July and already has about 40 sales people in the field and soon will have distributorshp arrangements to work with another 100 as new products become ready for release. An engineering position also may be added in the near future to meet demand.

Over the next three years the company expects to bring a new product to market every six to nine months, says Mike Zamora, of Keystone Surgical Products.

Its first product line will feature radio opaque markers and scales for orthopedic and interventional cardiology imaging, guide wire management for cath lab procedures, and an innovative distraction/compression device for orthopedics.

The company has the capability to develop and manufacture new products and also sell established products that serve the orthopedic and interventional cardiology markets.

Keystone Surgical Products is the latest enterprise in the Keystone group of companies established in 1997. Keystone Solutions Group provides product development, supply chain management and contract manufacturing for the medical device, automotive, aerospace and specialty products industries. The Solutions Group encompasses Keystone Product Development and Keystone Manufacturing. The former provides engineering services, resource procurement and project management consulting to clients. Keystone Manufacturing handles manufacturing, assembly, packing and distribution of products and devices.

The group’s corporate headquarters are in Kalamazoo. It’s manufacturing operation is in Grand Rapids.

The latest company, Keystone Surgical Products, came about through the partnership between Adam Keilen, an inventor, medical device entrepreneur and partner at Keystone Surgical. Keilen has helped Keystone develop products in the past. Keilen says the company is working to develop products that improve efficiency in a way that helps both patients and physicians.
