Top Gun in simulators, FAAC grows facilities and staff

FAAC is making a some real money off military simulators in Ann Arbor. And the company is growing, increasing both staff and its facilties.

For many bus and military Humvee drivers, training starts on a simulator created by FAAC Inc. of Pittsfield Township.

FAAC, part of publicly traded defense and security products manufacturer Arotech Corp., has been building aviation training software - and then driving simulators - since 1971.

After being acquired by Arotech in 2004, FAAC has been expanding quickly. In 2006, Arotech relocated its headquarters from New York to the FAAC Ann Arbor area location. Sister-simulation company IES Interactive also moved here from its home in Colorado.

Last month, FAAC officially celebrated the expansion of its facilities, which grew from 18,000 square feet in 2004 to 39,000 square feet currently. As of its ribbon-cutting ceremony, the three companies employed 125 people in Pittsfield Township, up from 56 people at the end of 2005.

"We call it our 'Ann Arbor campus' now," said President Dean Krutty.
