Money might make the world go round but a new infusion of it is definitely driving Tissue Regeneration Systems.
Madison, Wisconsin-based Venture Investors is investing $2 million into the spin-off from the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin. The money will help further its research into bio-active medical devices and add another employee or two to the seven people who already work for the Ann Arbor-based firm.
The company, founded by U-M and U-W professors, specializes in making implants for bones, like jaws and spines. That in itself isn't exactly groundbreaking, but the fact that the implants slowly dissolve over time letting the bone naturally grow in place of it definitely is.
"We believe it will lead to faster recoveries and longer term patient outcomes," says Jim Adox, president and CEO of Tissue Regeneration Systems and a managing director with Venture Investors. "That way they can get back to work faster and there are fewer complications."
Right now that technology is still in the developmental stage and a couple of years away from being brought to market. But if it pans out the way the company's leaders hope, it could make enough money to make their head spin.
