Ambiq Micro returns to Ann Arbor to set up office in Venture Accelerator

Ambiq Micro is making a return of sorts to Ann Arbor, opening a new satellite office in the University of Michigan's Venture Accelerator.

The University of Michigan spin-out that makes tiny, energy-efficient microprocessors moved to Austin, Texas, a few years ago. The new office in the Venture Accelerator will provide two of the start-up's co-founders space to further its growth.

"In one sense it was convenience," says Scott Hanson, CEO of Ambiq Micro. "It also makes sense because we have a close relationship with the Office of Tech Transfer. The Venture Accelerator also has a lot of resources."

Ambiq Micro is developing energy-efficient micro-processors that dramatically extend the battery life of wireless devices. They can be utilized in several different applications, ranging from smart credit cards to sensors that control temperature to medical devices.

The 2-year-old start-up employs eight people. It plans to open the office in the Venture Accelerator later this summer, which will be occupied by two of the co-founders and one employee.
