The University of Michigan is moving forward with the renovation of the Varsity Building now that the university's Board of Regents has approved schematic plans for the project.
A renovation of 46,000 square feet of space to accommodate the wet collection for the university's Museum of Zoology is on the drawing board. The development also includes a 6,000-square-foot storage area for the collection.
The $17.6 million project includes a revamp of the building's architecture and mechanical systems. Construction is expected to wrap up in the summer of 2012.
