U-M reinvests in Rocky Mountain Field Station

Not all of the improvements to the University of Michigan’s campus take place in Ann Arbor.

The university recently finished making significant improvements to its Camp Davis Rocky Mountain Field Station in Wyoming. Think of it as the university’s far west campus.

U-M set up a summer surveying camp to an abandoned ranch in 1929, relocating from its old facility in northern Michigan. The 120 acres, purchased for $2,500, consisted of some old cabins and lots of wild, open space.

It has remained pretty much the same for the 80 years the university has owned it until this year. U-M recently finished construction of a block of new cabins and other improvements to the camp’s infrastructure. So far 20 of the cabins have been replaced and the rest of the 50 are expected to be replaced in the near future.
