Dominick's looks to expand retail options

The light is green over at Casa Dominick's these days now that the city has signed off on its planned-unit-development plans.

The signature bar and eatery next to the University of Michigan's Law Quad is planning to turn the property that houses the business along with two adjacent houses that serve as student rentals into a restaurant, residential apartments, offices and one or more bed and breakfasts.

That's the long-term plan but for now the locally famous watering hole for students and townies alike is looking to expand its retail options.

Dominick DeVarti started Casa Dominick’s on a shoe-string budget in 1960. The 2-story building overlooking the Law Quad has become famous for its Sangria and relaxing second-story patio.
