Walsworth Publishing Company, among the 50 largest printing companies in the U.S. and top 10 book printers, has acquired IPC Print Services in St. Joseph.

The purchase of IPC, a commercial printer previously owned by Journal Communications, will make it easier for Walsworth to give customers services essential to the commercial printing market. With the purchase of IPC, Walsworth Publishing gains a broad set of sheet fed, web, binding, fulfillment and distribution options not found in many midsize print companies.

The company currently is working through the transition of the integration and cannot say at this time what the acquisition will mean in terms of staffing, but it expects to know more in 60 to 90 days. Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.

“We are bringing together two organizations that share the same values and commitment to meet the needs of our customers today and into the future,” says Don Walsworth, President of Walsworth Publishing Company.

Ken Kozminski, President of IPC, says the acquisition will allow the printing company to continue to create customized printing solutions for its customers as it has for the past 60 years.

“With a parent company that joins us in our core business of printing, we now can offer our customers more than ever before,” Kozminski says.

In addition to its ranking as one of the nation’s top 10 book printers, Walsworth Publishing Company also is the only American- and family-owned publisher of yearbooks. Started in 1937 by Walsworth brothers Don, Ed and Bill, current leadership is under the second and third generations The company, which began printing yearbooks in 1947, operates from administrative offices and printing and binding facilities in Marceline, Mo., a prepress plant in Brookfield, Mo., a sales and marketing office in Kansas City, Mo.
