Farmers, musicians and more make 100 Mile Market an experience

For those interested in seeking out local food and dealing with local farmers, the 100-Mile-Market, sponsored by People’s Food Co-op has a solution.

At the 100-Mile-Market all the produce and other goods found there are from within a radius of 100 miles.

This year, the market expands from 12 to 15 vendors in the Co-op parking lot at 507 Harrison St. Market Coordinator Chris Broadbent says other new features this year will be local barbecue from the Rib Cage. And there will be herbs, salad greens, teas and tinctures from Granny Janny Herbs. See a complete list of vendors here.

On a rotating basis, food startups working in the Can-Do Kitchen will be at the market to sell their products as they introduce themselves to potential long-term customers. Fruit and nut mix from The Adventures of Barb and Tammy and ice cream from the Red Trike Ice Cream Co., which will deliver ice cream from a bike, are among those who will be found at this year’s market.

Broadbent also has lined up artists and musicians to add to the festive nature of the market, among them a drumming cooperative and a viola player who will perform at different times.

“This is a space where consumers and food producers come together to build strong relationships,” Broadbent says.

The People’s Food Co-op 100 Mile Market is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through October.
