Adopt-A-Highway program to begin spring cleaning state's roadways

Trash tends to accumulate on Michigan highways all year round, but the most noticeable time of year seems to be right after the snow melts and the grass is thinking about turning green again. That's why it's so nice to have a program like Adopt-A-Highway, which will begin spring cleaning in the coming weeks.

Excerpt: Areas along Michigan highways will soon be clear of trash that piled up during the winter months.

The Adopt-A-Highway pickup will take place during two different time periods this spring and more than 3,000 volunteers will collect the trash.

"Adopt-A-Highway is a great way to give back to your community, and your efforts make a visible difference to tourists and our quality of life." State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle said in a news release.
