Michigan Tech turned 125 years old this year, which is quite a feat when you sit back and consider it was founded as a school for mines originally. Since then, it has climbed out of the mine shafts and has proven itself one of the best engineering universities in the country.
The U.S. House of Representatives recognized Michigan Tech's achievements and its birthday with a resolution recently.
Excerpt: The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution today introduced by Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) honoring Michigan Technological University in Houghton on its 125th anniversary and for its contributions to Michigan and the country.
"For 125 years, Michigan Tech has educated thousands of students in some of the areas most vital to the future success of our nation, such as science, engineering and mathematics," Stupak said. "I thank my colleagues for joining me today to honor Michigan Tech and its students as they continue to be world leaders in innovative technological research and education."
