Funds authorized for state-wide, Marquette County projects

Thanks to a decision by Gov. Rick Snyder to authorize grants from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund, several projects in Marquette County are going to be moving forward. Over 102.1 million in grants were authorized by the bill.

Excerpt: Of the U.P. grants, Marquette County will receive $668,600 in project funding and $1.9 million for acquisitions. Those grant awards include funding for the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, Farquar/Metsa Tourist Park in Forsyth Township and the Thomas Rock Scenic Outlook in Powell Township.

Funding was also approved for a deer habitat in the Huron Mountains and acquiring a waterfowl refuge in Alger County at the south end of the AuTrain Basin.

"Michigan is a national leader in providing diverse, high-quality outdoor recreation opportunities," said Department of Natural Resources Director Rodney Stokes.
