Tanzanian bishop speaks to Finlandia's 87 graduates

A bishop from Tanzania is scheduled to spoke to the 2010 graduating class of Finlandia University in Hancock, reports The Daily Mining Gazette. The Lutheran bishop's message, said the paper, focused on the importance of world peace.

Excerpt: Finlandia University conducted its 109th commencement ceremony Sunday, and for Philip Johnson, the graduates have done more than just pick up a diploma.

"Our graduates not only earned a degree, but they have found meaning and purpose beyond," said Johnson, who is president of Finlandia.

It's the students who make Finlandia special, Johnson said.

"I believe I'm president because of you," he said. "I believe Finlandia is what it is because of you."

Johnson said the graduates are "surrounded" by family, friends, faculty and staff who care about them.
