Want to have a good time? Well, backpacking through the Porcupine Mountains is one way to do that

The Upper Peninsula is an outdoors paradise, and anyone who argues that has never actually been here. What's interesting are the many different views about what is the best feature the U.P. has to offer. For some, it's the lakes. For others, it's the woods. And for some, it's the Porcupine Mountains.

Excerpt: Sequestered in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the "Porkies" are the perfect getaway for any camper, outdoor lover, or adventure-seeker. Running right alongside Lake Superior, many Northland folk say they feel right at home. At about a two hour drive, camping here is completely plausible to do on a whim, which is one thing that makes the Porkies so appealing.

I tend to be more of "night owl" and there's nothing I love more than laying out and looking at the sky on a gorgeous, cloudless night. Laying in that zero-degree sleeping bag, away from all of the light pollution of suburban life, and being able to clearly see what seems like miles of stars is the most amazing part of camping for me. Knowing I can drive two hours and be in the presence of such spectacular views is just crazy.
