South Haven couple finds second career in bookstore

Richard Haferman started collecting books and then dreamed of opening a book store.

Before that dream came true he and his wife had 27,000 volumes in the basement, reports the Herald-Palladium. Their church pitched in an helped them move the books.

Excerpt:

Richard and Pam Haferman opened Black River Books at 330 Kalamazoo St. in South Haven in 2007. He is a retired pastor, and she is a retired family therapist. Their store is the only used book store - with some new titles - in South Haven, and is often a busy place. They sell a variety of books, and there's a wide range of prices. The Hafermans' two labradoodles, Booker and Dewey, are always at the store with them, and the dogs have become celebrities in their own right.
