As spring settles in, Midland is buzzing with a lineup of community events throughout April. From talent showcases and holiday celebrations to fitness competitions and culinary contests, residents will have plenty of opportunities to participate, spectate, and enjoy local entertainment.
Grace A. Dow Memorial Library Spring Break movies
The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will screen free movies daily at 2 p.m. from March 31 to April 4 in the Library Auditorium. The lineup includes:

- April 1 – "Moana 2"
- April 2 – "Harold and the Purple Crayon"
- April 3 – "Despicable Me 4"
- April 4 – Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken"

Shining Stars Talent Show Returns
The MCTV Network will host its annual Shining Stars Talent Show on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at MCTV’s studio in the lower level of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library.
Residents can sign up to perform in categories including singing, dancing, instrumental music, poetry, juggling, and more. The program will air on MCTV Charter Spectrum Channel 191, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, and streaming platforms like Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire Stick.
Voting for favorite performances will be available via email, YouTube comments, and MCTV’s Facebook page. The winner will be recognized on MCTV’s Community Messages Board and may be invited to perform live at MCTV’s Honors Night.

Chippewa Nature Center Naturally Dyed Eggs Workshop
The Chippewa Nature Center will offer a workshop on natural egg dyeing on April 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Participants will learn how to make natural dyes using items from their pantry and will leave with a dozen dyed eggs.

Midland Mall Hosts Easter Eggspedition Expo
Families can take part in an Easter celebration at the Midland Mall during the Easter Eggspedition Expo on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to a vendor show and an appearance by the Easter Bunny, guests can participate in a scavenger hunt. Completed forms can be returned to the Welcome Booth for a chance to win an Easter basket. The drawing will be held on April 13 at 5 p.m.
Michigan Roar Natural Bodybuilding Classic
The 2025 Michigan Roar Natural Bodybuilding Classic will take place at Bullock Creek High School on Saturday, April 19, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Athletes will compete for the Michigan Roar Natural Bodybuilding Champion title in a showcase of strength and dedication. Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on the competitors.

Great Lakes Beer Festival’s Chili Cook-Off Heats Up
The Great Lakes Beer Festival’s Chili Cook-Off is set for April 26 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Venue 63, 1517 Bayliss St.
Attendees will get six craft beer tasting tickets, six chili samples, and a souvenir pint glass. Votes will determine the best brews and chili, with proceeds benefiting local charities.
