In a collaborative effort to spark interest in construction careers among young women, Associated Builders & Contractors Greater Michigan (ABC-GM), the Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA), and LOGIC (Ladies Operating for Growth in Construction) are bringing the “
Build Like a Girl” event to Midland on Feb.19, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Great Hall, located at 5121 Bay City Road in Midland.
Designed for students in grades 5 through 12, the evening will showcase career opportunities in the construction industry and feature interactive, hands-on activities offered by local construction companies and suppliers.
“Build Like a Girl strives to empower and educate young girls by providing opportunities to explore the construction industry through interactive experiences and guidance from successful women in the field," says Cathy Geiger, director of marketing and community affairs at Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Greater Michigan chapter.
"The hands-on activities at the company booths help inspire confidence, showing girls they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.”
Participants will also hear from local employers and influential women in the construction industry to determine if a career in construction is a good fit for them. This unique workforce development program aims to empower young women to explore diverse roles in lucrative STEM careers.
All attendees will receive a T-shirt, a truck hat courtesy of “Hard Hat” sponsor
Three Rivers Corporation, a bag and other items. To ensure T-shirt sizes, participants are asked to register by Jan. 19.
