Ryan Brehm -- this year's Michigan Open champion and Mount Pleasant native -- now will be helping up-and-coming golfers at Michigan State University improve their game.
The
MSU alum recently was named the college's assistant golf coach. In his new role, Brehm will take over coaching, recruiting, and administrative tasks for one of the Big Ten's top men's golf programs.
Excerpt:
"The opportunity kind of blindsided me," Brehm said. "I wasn't planning on it, it wasn't something that I had expected. However, I have thought about getting into coaching for a while. It's just always something that I've enjoyed. Did I think it would happen this early? No. But I think I'm ready for it."
Brehm was an All-American for the Spartans, and led the team to back-to-back Big Ten titles. He held a 72.59 stroke average his senior year, the fourth-lowest in school history.
Since graduating in 2008, Brehm has spent time playing in the NGA Hooters mini-tour, and has participated in several Michigan PGA events.
