Saginaw woman turns inspirational quotes into thriving business

Kristin Novak's desire to inspire her sister has turned into a successful business.

The 34-year-old Carrollton resident began sending inspirational quotes and scrolls to her sister in Chicago who has a child with Down syndrome. That act of kindness now has turned into a growing business for Novak, who was featured earlier this year on Fox Business News.

Excerpt:

"I wanted something handmade, for her to think of something positive to start off her day," she said.

Novak turned to her love of inspirational quotations. She printed 365 quotes from people such as Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi and Lance Armstrong, cut them and hand-rolled them into scrolls, then put them into a box. It took her 71/2 hours.

Since then, Novak has given about 800 such boxes of quotations as gifts to friends, family members and students she substitute taught at Nouvel High School.
