Former CMU baseball player signs with Toronto Blue Jays

Major League Baseball teams sure seem to like those baseball players from Central Michigan University.

Pitcher Jesse Hernandez signed a contract with the Toronto Blue Jays last week, making him the second CMU baseball player to sign with an MLB team this year. The Kansas City Royals selected former teammate Dale Cornstubble in the 40th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

Excerpt:

"I'm just really excited for him," said CMU coach Steve Jaksa. "We knew he had a real good opportunity to play before. His name was up there (on the draft board) and we knew he had a chance to go. After it was over, we knew they had chance to take him afterward."

The 6-foot-1,200-pound right hander finished the 2010 season with an 8-3 record and 4.58 ERA, earning Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Year honors.
