Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant -- a thriving college town -- is situated in Mid Michigan about 61 miles north of Lansing. The city is home to Central Michigan University, and to a Mid Michigan Community College campus.

A portion of the city is located on the Isabella Indian Reservation, the site of the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. With its rich Native American heritage, the city also boasts some unique attractions like the Ziibiwing Center -- a museum and cultural center that showcases the history of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. Every year, the tribe holds a pow wow, which highlights Native American culture through dancing, singing, drumming, and ornate costumes.

The area also offers several outdoor attractions, including 15 championship golf courses, canoeing along the Chippewa River, and the Florence Maxwell Sanctuary -- a 40-acre nature preserve.

Notable people from Mount Pleasant include former Michigan governor John Engler, and Dan Pohl, former PGA Tour professional golfer.
