The
Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced that several mid-Michigan towns are among the first round of municipalities which will enter a new redevelopment support program.
The Redevelopment Ready Communities program is in two phases: first communities are measured and then certified. The goals include transparency, predictability and efficiency in development practices.
In the first round, 36 communities applied to be evaluated, with the top eight scoring applicants moving on to begin the certification process this year. None of those were in mid-Michigan, but nine will undergo redevelopment assistance and best practice training through the MEDC.
They are Alma, Birch Run, Breckenridge, Burton, Durand, Ithaca, Midland, Saginaw Township and St. Louis.
