The city continues to pursue federal stimulus dollars for what officials see as long overdue projects.
Officials
hit the stimulus funds jackpot, so to speak, with the announcement last
month that the city will receive $7.7 million in American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act funds to alleviate blight, acquire and rehabilitate
houses, and increase land bank capacity.
On a considerably
smaller scale, but nonetheless very much welcome by city officials at a
time of dramatically decreased revenues, the Federal Highway
Administration has allocated $237,000 of stimulus funds for the asphalt
resurfacing of Oak Street, from Third Street to Biddle Avenue.
City Engineer Mark Kowalewski said the estimated construction cost is $221,600.
"The
balance of $15,400 will be utilized for construction engineering and
inspection by Engineering Department employees," Kowalewski said.
