Political sparring partners Robert Ficano and L. Brooks Patterson have
reached a tentative accord that is expected to free legislation, mired
in Lansing since last year, which will move forward the "aerotropolis"
economic development concept for land around
Detroit Metropolitan
Airport.
Details of the compromise haven't been released,
but Ficano, the Wayne County executive, said they address worries about
businesses being poached, the number of floating incentive zones and the
time frame for approving or denying a company's application to locate
in a zone.
"We're still working the language out," he said,
adding that he expects the deal to be worked out in time for a hearing
next week on the bills in the Senate's commerce and tourism committee.
