It's pumpkin-carving time already, and the Stonewall Pumpkin Festival on October 9 is one of the county's best annual autumn pastimes. Help the Rochester Hills Museum exceed the 1,011 pumpkins carved and lit last year!
Guests are invited to carve a pumpkin and place it on the stone walls surrounding the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There's plenty more activities during the day, including make-and-take art projects with the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, face painting, temporary tattoo station, hay jump, music and food. There will also be readings from local author Laura Casser, who will present her children's book about the event, Night of 1,000 Pumpkins.
Evening lighting of the pumpkins along the stone walls of the 16-acre grounds runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
This fun for the family is also affordable: daytime admission costs $7 per person and includes a pumpkin. The museum will provide stencils and carving tools, but guests are encouraged to bring their own tools. Requested admission for the evening lighting of the pumpkins is one can of food or gently worn gloves and hats, which will be donated to the Rochester Neighborhood House.
The Stonewall Pumpkin Festival is sponsored by the Genisys Credit Union. Find out more at the
