PONTIAC, Mich.– July 9, 2009 – Arts, Beats & Eats A Festival of Hope will feature the works of area youth as projects from the
Oakland County Summer Arts Project will be displayed in hour-long exhibits throughout the festival.
Presented by
Oakland County Schools and supported by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, the Arts Projects is a competition for Oakland County students ages 6-12 to submit an original artwork in any medium that was created this summer. A list of prizes will be announced including a $50 savings bond from Flagstar Bank and gift certificates at local businesses. There will be at least five prizes awarded to each age group, which are 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12.
"Arts. Beats & Eats strives to give our young attendees a cultural experience," said Jon Witz Arts, Beats & eats producer. "We felt the best way to engage our youth was to challenge their creativity. I am sure they will impress festival goers with their creations."
Participants will be given a 2' by 2' exhibit space and table. They may create up to four pieces of work as long as it fits into the allotted exhibit space from the following themes as motivation for their work: What's Great About Michigan; Animals, Nature or the Environment; and Pop Culture, which includes nonviolent movies, TV shows and computer games.
With Arts, Beats & Eats adding a $2 admission fee, an added incentive for participation is that all Summer Arts Project participants and their families will receive free admission "Here's a great situation where the kids will be treating the family. All it takes is a little work on the arts over the summer," added Witz.
Students can reserve a space and participate by sending an e-mail with Oakland County Arts Project in the subject line to info@artsbeatseats.com or by calling 248.334.4600 by July 22, 2009. All registrants must provide one parent's name, e-mail address, phone number and the name of the Oakland County school the child will be attending in fall 2009. Once a space is reserved, Arts Beats & Eats will provide a choice of exhibition dates and times and all follow-up information on prizes, load-in and additional details.
The competition excludes pieces frames with glass, traced materials or work from coloring books.
