Oakland County's natural wonders will continue to be even more accessible to residents, thanks to continued funding of the Recreation Assistance Partnership by the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission.
The commission approved $150,000 for the 2011 partnership at its Feb. 2 meeting, which will support the Parks' mobile recreation units and bus transportation for Oakland County's villages, townships, cities, community parks and recreation departments,
school districts, downtown development authorities, non-profit organizations
and groups in underserved areas in Oakland
County.
That means popular mobile entertainment and education tools like Get Outdoors! ADVENTURES, Puppet Mobile, Bouncer, Mini
Festival, and nature education, as well as bus transportation to many of the County's parks and recreation areas, will once again be available to help residents get the most out of their Parks experience.
And there's more good news from the Parks and Recreation Department. The Michigan Recreation and Park Association awarded the department it's 2010 "Grand Award," bestowed annually upon the organization that provides outstanding
leadership, service, education and support to public recreation in Michigan. Oakland County Parks and Recreation was selected from more than 100 public and private agencies and organizations to receive the honor. The award was presented at MRPA’s annual conference by President Linda Walter on February 10.
"Oakland County Parks and Recreation is a shining example of responsible government and the positive impact recreation and park services can have on a community," Walter said. "They are the gold standard for parks systems across Michigan."
