Filmmaker and Birmingham native Mike Binder talks about his time in the area.
Excerpt:
I've always adored Birmingham. We moved here from downtown Detroit
when I was in fifth grade, and I was nuts about the place from the jump.
I remember my first week at Bloomfield Village Elementary school and I
can even tell you about the black turtleneck sweater I was wearing the
day and the minute I was struck down with the first huge crush I ever
had on a gorgeous little Birmingham brunette named Kim Flagg who lived
two blocks over on Sandringham Road. I remember finding out within two
months that winding up through the streets of Bloomfield Township on a
Schwinn you could huff and puff your way to Mills Drugs in a half hour
and then, braving the "giant" hill on Maple in another 10 to 15 minutes
you could be "uptown."
