Lifestyles come in focus at Ferndale shops

Candle shop is thriving in Ferndale.

Smith and her co-owner and sister, Patty Shaw, thought of the Boston Tea Room located in Wyandotte.

"We said what would we do to operate (a tea room), and we said we would do it just like the Boston Tea Room," Smith said. "I said, 'Let's call them.'"

Enter Heatherleigh Navarre, who now owns both locations, with the Ferndale store having opened in March. "I kept telling Jacki to call when the recession (is over)," she said. "The next thing I knew, I was buying paint.

"So far it is going really well. We have clients who are driving an hour to two hours, plus new people are more than happy to step in after buying their groceries."
