Oakland, Livingston salons pamper jobless for free

Local salons offer the unemployed some pampering to empower them to stay positive.

Weis was one of dozens of jobless Metro Detroiters who got help polishing their looks Sunday in the "Project: Beyond Beauty" campaign. Launched by Azenza and the J. Christopher Salon in Howell along with two others in Oakland County, the initiative, which will run indefinitely, offers complimentary services to unemployed Oakland and Livingston county residents in the Michigan Works! Jobs, Education and Training Program to give them a new look and boost their self-confidence.

"We wanted to do whatever we do to empower those hit by the economy," said Daniel Zavala, who co-owns Azenza with Joan Cauzillo. "What we give allows people to regain confidence and be successful in their job hunt."
