Bordine marks 70 years

Rochester Hills' Bordine nursery turns 70.

Seventy years ago, the world was in turmoil with World War II percolating in Eastern Europe. But at home, Darrell Bordine found a bankrupt business and decided to "put his roots down."

With the support and help of his wife, Marian, Darrell Bordine planted a concept for developing a "better" nursery business in Avon Township (now Rochester Hills) -- better plants, better quality, better selection and better overall gardening.

On Friday, the family owned business celebrated its 70th anniversary with a small gathering of city officials, media, workers and family. Rochester Hills Mayor Brian Barnett presented a plaque to the family expressing the city's pride.
