Rochester Hills' Bordine nursery turns 70.

Seventy years ago, the world was in turmoil with World War II
percolating in Eastern Europe. But at home, Darrell Bordine found a
bankrupt business and decided to "put his roots down."
With the
support and help of his wife, Marian, Darrell Bordine planted a concept
for developing a "better" nursery business in Avon Township (now
Rochester Hills) -- better plants, better quality, better selection and
better overall gardening.
On Friday, the family owned business
celebrated its 70th anniversary with a small gathering of city
officials, media, workers and family. Rochester Hills Mayor Brian
Barnett presented a plaque to the family expressing the city's pride.
