Children's opera a magical delight at Birmingham's Baldwin Library

Operas aren't just for tuxedos and gowns... it's also for kids.

"We been to a number of programs at the library and they're always incredible," said their aunt, Sandy Menczer. "It's one of the things I love about living in Birmingham."

Opera may seem a little highbrow for children, but the room was packed. Connie Ilmer, head of Youth Services for Baldwin, said the annual performance always draws a crowd.

"These are special operas written by members of the Michigan Opera Theatre for children," Ilmer said. "They do a new production each year and then they go on the road to different schools and libraries. This is our fourth or fifth year we've had them here and it's always one of our most popular programs."
