More than 200 volunteers update old equipment at Baldwin Park

More than 200 volunteers turn out to fix up old equipment at Pontiac's Baldwin Park.

"This playground is very important because all we had before were broken swings and old-fashioned rocking horses," said Councilman Lee Jones, who represents the 6th District. "This new playscape will have children migrating back to the park."

The project cost $68,500, funded through a $61,000 grant from the Home Depot Foundation and $7,500 from the city and Venture Inc., which is a subsidiary of the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency. KaBoom, a Washington-based nonprofit organization that assists in getting playgrounds built nationwide, also participated. City officials and representatives from Venture applied for the grant last year. The Home Depot Foundation has built more than 600 playgrounds across the United States.
