Michigan real estate agents renting to movie biz

Some local real estate agents haven't let the recent economic downturn cramp their style. Instead, they've turned to out-of-staters for business -- particularly some famous names seeking residences in Oakland County.

Demi Moore, Hugh Jackman and Richard Gere are just a few of the Hollywood mega-stars who used local real estate agents to find temporary homes while shooting movies in the Mitten State.

Agents who broker short-term deals for movie stars don't do it for the money. A standard commission is one month's rent for a year-long lease, and Hollywood types only stay for 60-90 days. Still, Andrew Teitel, 54, associate broker at SKBK Sotheby's International Realty in Birmingham who has worked with plenty of big names, says he wants to be known as the Realtor to the stars.

"I wanted whomever I worked with to find being in Detroit effortless," he said.

That's why Teitel's services include serving as an unofficial concierge service, helping relocated celebrities with everything from country club access to Pilates classes.
