Trying to recover from health issues during a recent 4 1/2-year stretch, Kristopher Lieber came up with a green thumb.
But that was a good thing.
Taking up gardening as therapy, Lieber also discovered a new career. Formerly a clinical engineering specialist with a four-year degree in biomedical electronics, the Ferndale resident left the corporate world and opened the Green Thumb Garden Center at 22963 Woodward, two blocks north of Nine Mile Road.
"Through the process of healing, one of the things (friends and family) recommended was gardening, which is something I did as a child with my grandfather," Lieber said. "I picked up the hobby again, found it great therapy, physically and mentally."
