The second annual Arts, Beats and Eats festival, scheduled for Labor Day weekend, may get a big boost from the city of Royal Oak.
Royal Oak City Manager Don Johnson has proposed the festival, which relocated to the city in 2010, expand its borders to include parts of Fourth Street, Center Street and Lincoln Avenue. The city made $155,000 from the festival last year.
Excerpt:
The festival brought an estimated $23.7 million in spending to the city
and drew 425,000 visitors to downtown, Johnson said in his memo. His
proposal would allow promoter Jon Witz to charge $5 for admission at
peak times -- up from $3. He outlined his proposals in a memo to city
leaders last week.
