TROY AND BIRMINGHAM: Transit station to get federal funds

The Troy/Birmingham transit station may be getting some considerable funds.

Though Congress still has to vote on the issue, supporters of a proposed multimodal transit station were pleased to learn that a federal transportation bill includes $1.3 million for the center.

U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, announced Wednesday that funding proposed this year is included in a final budget bill reconciled by the House and Senate, which could vote on the budget in the next couple of weeks.

Birmingham planning director Jana Ecker said Troy and Birmingham have $1.6 million set aside for the $7-million project.
