A developer's proposal could bring a new six-story parking garage with residential units to Ferndale's busy downtown district.
Ferndale City Council voted unanimously to allow City Manager Bob Bruner and Ferndale's city attorney to enter into discussions with Robert Wolfson, who developed the Lofts on Nine Mile in the downtown district.
The parking garage would be built west of Woodward on Withington. Ferndale's Downtown Development Authority studied the area and found it had the greatest need for more parking. The garage would be financed by the city.
Wolfson estimated that the project would generate $173,000 in taxes
and bring in an additional 250 people to the downtown area. Parking
rates could be increased, he said, but there would be no tax increase
needed.
