There's a reason why so many entrepreneurs call Oakland County home.
A new study published by the University of Michigan Dearborn's eCities 2010 project examines how well Michigan communities foster entrepreneurial opportunities and growth. Surveying more than 100 communities, more than 15 towns or cities in Oakland County received five or four-star rating for understanding what small businesses need to be successful.
In Oakland County, Auburn Hills, Farmington Hills, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Troy and Southfield were all ranked five stars by UM-Dearborn for their efforts to help small businesses open and thrive within their limits.
The 100 communities surveyed in the study were home to 128,242 entrepreneurs who earned $3.4 billion in annual income in 2010 -- meaning small businesses aren't small potatoes in Michigan.
