Barnum Park in Birmingham is finally open for business.

After five years and roughly $10 million, Barnum Park in Birmingham is to open at the end of the month.
The 8-acre park has soccer and softball fields, a play structure, walking paths and seating areas.
In the future, said Director of Public Services Lauren Wood, it could have a public garden and a pavilion. The park, under construction since October, is off Pierce Street just south of downtown.
"It's spectacular," said David Young, a member of the Community for Barnum Park who lives on Clark Street near the park. "It's very important to the neighborhood because it's a place to gather."
