Software Design: Jobs Landed

I am a co-founder and the President of Practical EHR Solutions, LLC (Pehr), a software developer and service provider that helps physicians increase productivity and profitability.  Pehr is developing software that will educate and guide healthcare professionals through the implementation of 44 best practice initiatives, most of which are the result of the constantly changing regulatory environment in healthcare and the increasing technical skill set needed for compliance. While the software is in development, Pehr is focusing on providing Electronic Health Record implementation services directly to physician practices. My most previous job was as the Chief Operating Officer of a 50 physician multispecialty group where she and the other Pehr co-founders developed an implementation methodology that allows physicians to achieve a positive return on their EHR investment.
 
Along with my team, I launched the organization in January 2011 in Ann Arbor, feeling there is no better place for a healthcare IT start-up organization.

My primary responsibility is for the delivery of our software and services, but like everyone else working for a startup company, I wear many hats.  From day to day I can be doing sales, project management, or software design.

I am part of the SRT team building custom software solutions for automotive, manufacturing, marketing, technology, and on-line health management companies. My area of expertise is in object oriented and relational database design. I have extensive experience with Java and J2EE technologies, Oracle, and multiple open source development frameworks and tools, with recent experience developing mobile apps on the Android platform and building web services in Java with Hibernate (ORM), and the Spring IOC framework.

Mobiata creates mobile apps that are designed to make traveling simpler and more fun for users. The purpose of my role is to help ensure that our users find our apps to be as valuable and easy to use as possible. I do this by monitoring, responding to, and analyzing user feedback from a variety of channels. I then use that data to propose and advocate for app design and usability enhancements. Our users give invaluable feedback; it challenges us to stay at the cutting edge of design and helps us maintain our high standard of delivering a top-notch user experience.

With seven years as a professional web application developer, I am the point man for adopting emerging technologies for business use.  I have solid knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML5, FLEX and other standards, and the creative problem-solving skills from an artistic training. I hold an M.F.A. in Digital Imaging from Rochester Institute of Technology. In my copious spare time, I write apps for iPhone/iPad.

As an graduate of engineering, I knew that there was a good probability that I would not practice what I studied.  I truly enjoy the problem solving skills I obtained, and wanted to put that into use through business or consulting.  My job originally took me to Boston, where our North American HQ are.  I started in inside sales, learning sales techniques, and our software.  Once I proved myself in this area, I was given the opportunity to become the area manager for the Midwest.  ORSYP Software provides solutions to challenges in large Datacenters.  I control the technical resources for ORSYP, while presenting the company to the potential customer.  The reason why I enjoy my job is that each day is completely different.  The challenge to improve my knowlege of sales and the software industry keep me excited.  I enjoy the traveling, meeting new people, and the stress that comes with the job. 

I am focused on talent acquisition and driving the hiring efforts needed to meet New World's ongoing growth goals. My key responsibilities include recruiting and interviewing, process and procedure support, and other human resources projects.

I work on a variety of projects designing and developing usable interfaces for both Web and software applications.  Because I work at a small company I tend to do a lot of different things, whether it is making a 16x16 pixel icon, a full screen splash, designing a Web page or coding the HTML and JavaScript of an application.  Being at a research company is pretty neat because it gives me a chance to work on things that aren't out there in the market and work on new and exciting technology.

At New World Systems I am responsible for the recruiting initiatives of our Software Development team and executive level Sales Professionals on the East Coast.  I work in a team based environment where we successfully complete our hiring and growth needs.  Day in and day out I scour the industry searching for high level team members to potentially join our team.  Coupled with a strong focus on college recruiting at local universities (UofM, MSU, and Oakland University to name a few) I am involved with finding other creative ways to market and spread the success story of New World to the public.  We like to let everyone know that we are a strong growth company and just last year in 2008 we brought on over 90 team members and are on a similar growth plan this year.   Along with the standard recruiting responsibilities, I also contribute to our Human Resource needs which consist of our ongoing organizational development practices, new hire orientations, and any other tasks that come up on a daily basis that need to be addressed.  I have great pride in my career here since I know that my actions and efforts directly impact the success of New World.  Who I bring on board and their success within the organization is a direct reflection of myself and I always get a great feeling out of seeing team members that I hired win various internal awards and recognitions.

I call contacts in different departments of public safety over an assigned territory.  My territory covers 31 states. I update information on various contact's needs and levels of dissatisfaction with their current software. I also do other research and marketing needs of specific government software on a state to state basis.
