Media Genesis is enjoying growth not only in its core software business but also in a number of tech start-ups it has a stake in.
The Troy-based company has raised its revenue by double digits over the last year, handling a growing workload in the healthcare industry. It has helped three separate health-care networks become one one larger network called the
Allegheny Health Network by streamlining its core IT network and web presence.
That sort of work has allowed
Media Genesis to hire six people over the last year, mainly software programmers. The 17-year-old business now has a staff of 40 employees and five interns.
Media Genesis also has a stake in a number of start-ups that are now beginning to take off. Among its portfolio companies are
Treatment.com (a website that helps people who suffer from chronic illness take care of themselves),
Urban Employ (a staffing website) and
Message Plink (a text messaging service that helps reduce the cost of cell phone bills).
"A few of these ventures are starting to raise capital," says
Antoine Dubeauclard, president of Media Genesis, adding that they are also "starting to gain traction."
Message Plink allows its users to receive targeted advertising text messages and receive a micropayment for each text they read. "That way you can receive texts and get your phone bill paid," Dubeauclard says.
