Macomb County leaders strategize on business attraction and retention

Macomb County leadership has commissioned a study that quantifies its assets in order to  help it focus on industries -- like advanced manufacturing and automotive and homeland security -- that will bolster its economic and employment outlook.

According to the report, those industries capitalize on Macomb County’s current workforce, which consists mainly of manufacturing workers, as well as its proximity to large manufacturing and defense companies, such as Sterling Heights-based General Dynamics Land Systems and General Motors Corp.’s Warren assembly plant.

Access to military outfits such as the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command in Warren and Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township also would be attractive to manufacturing companies in high-growth sectors, the report said.
