Joe Cornell Entertainment hires 8 in Southfield

The world is ready to start throwing parties again now that the economy is coming back. Or, at least they are in Metro Detroit.

Southfield-based Joe Cornell Entertainment has seen a steady increase in clients and that means an increase in staff. The event-planning firm now employs 30 people after making eight hires over the last year. It hired three people in the last two months with revenue spiking 20 percent on a per-event basis.

"The market has improved markedly," says Steve Jasgur, president of Joe Cornell Entertainment. "The event season runs concurrent with the school year. This last year there has been an uptick in family celebrations. People have said I am going to spend it. Not only are they making the phone ring they are being a little bit more liberal with their finances."

Joe Cornell Entertainment got its start in 1957 by Joe Cornell offering dancing lessons and events. It has grown into a full-fledged entertainment firm since then. Joe Cornell retired 23 years ago and sold the business to Jasgur and Rebecca Schlussel who have grown it to its current state.

Jasgur says he optimistic for the company's growth to continue, especially as the economy improves. "I expect it to not only to continue but grow," Jasgur says.
