Troy-based Global LT hires 15 as it expands around world

Global LT is a company that specializes in facilitating international business through communication training. It also happens to be going through a large global growth spurt.

The Troy-based firm provides language and cultural services to clients looking to do business overseas. It has hired 15 people over the last year and has five open positions now as it expands it operations into Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, China and Brazil. It is also looking at opening up entities in Turkey, Australia, Russia and India.

That growth has allowed the 32-year-old company to grow its staff in Troy to 80 employees and a handful of interns. It also has a stable of about 700 independent contractors overseas. Fueling all of this growth is an expansion of corporate spending as the demand for these translation and cultural-training services grow.

"We have seen some movement in corporate budgets," says Kenneth Patterson, COO of Global LT. "It's not only the services we provide that is bringing them back but we are seeing an uptick in the economy."

Global LT has also been investing in its own infrastructure. It recently finished a $250,000 upgrade in its technology and is developing a software portal so its customers can see how their dollars are being spent and how effectively they are being deployed.

"That's just to keep pace with out growth," Patterson says.
