Genisys Credit Union is riding the recent wave of growing credit union popularity, expanding its membership, total deposits and staff in Auburn Hills.
The credit union got its start in 1936 as the credit union for workers of General Motors Truck & Coach and Burroughs Corp. It merged with three other credit unions four years ago to create Genisys Credit Union and it has watched its numbers spike since then. Membership is up 20.7 percent to 130,000 total members since 2010. Membership and employee satisfaction rate are each in the 96th percentile.
"We're a very progressive credit union," says Lon Bone, vice president of public relations & community involvement at
Genisys Credit Union. "We just released our iPhone app for mobile deposit. Our members find that membership service is excellent. We put the membership ahead of everything else."
That has allowed Genisys Credit Union to expand. It has hired 35 people so far this year with a total staff of 350 employees and the occasional intern. It has five job openings right now.
"We just hired five people in the last 30 days," Bone says.
Bone expects the credit union's growth to continue as it focuses on growing its membership by recruiting members of Generation Y and focusing on youth savings programs. It also looks to continue to grow its lending programs for both homes and small businesses.
"Genisys is on the cutting edge of offering services that our people need or want," Bone says.
